The refuge
Le Refuge des Près is a human adventure above all, a project of men and women in love with mountains, who decided to restore an old alpine cabin located in a wonderful natural reserve. Their goal was to give the cabin a second life.
The initial idea behind this project
The project was initiated in 2017 by the guide company of Saint-Gervais and Les Contamines in partnership with Les Contamines town hall. The construction project began in 2020, after obtaining all the administrative permissions.
The guides were 100% invested to create a warm, cozy and ecofriendly mountain refuge. They paid attention to the type of materials they used to build the refuge. They are very careful and respectful to the water sources they used and how this water is going to go back to nature. Gaz and solar energy are the two sources the guides chose for power supply. This particular solar energy installation is the biggest of our region!
This audacious challenge took more than 15 month of 50 local craftsmen’s’ hard work to emerge. This adventure was made possible by financial support of Auvergne/Rhône-Alpes Region, Haute-Savoie Department, the French state, Contamines-Montjoie Town Hall, France Active and two banking partners.
Today, we want to warmly thank all of them for their help.

An exceptional place
Ideally located in the heart of Les Contamines-Montjoie natural reserve, in front of the Mont-Blanc Chain, Le Refuge des Près offers beautiful landscapes in all seasons. It’s one of the best places to observe the endemic flora, particularly rich in this preserved area. In this incredible place of beauty, you can discover various local animal species as Mountain Goats, Chamois, Marmots, Roe Deer’s, Deer’s, Foxes, Hares, Black Grouses, Royal Eagles, and even Gypaetus. This natural reserve will seduce all the nature lovers who like to be immersed in a wild environment!
We also share the place with a local farmer who takes his cows there to graze altitude grass in the summer. These local cows are sociable and friendly, they will be a joyful company to our guests. A mountain Refuge with all the comfort you need!
Comfort and peacefulness
Le Refuge des Près was designed to offer great comfort and peacefulness to hikers and skiers. It has an optimal isolation, warm water, floor heating, and the sleeping area is soundproof and ventilated. Everything has been made to offer peaceful holidays to our guest.
Everything for your wellbeing
Our cabin has seven spacious dormitories for four people, and one dormitory for two persons with bunk beds. A special attention has been paid to quality bedding, in order to guaranty a nice and restful night allowing adventures full of energy for your excursion the next day!
In the shared sanitary facilities, you’ll find four brand-new shower cabins, four toilet rooms and sinks made to bring you comfort and relaxation after a nice day in the mountains.
To complete our equipment, we also created a Mountain room with heat and ventilation with individual shoe dryers.
The sharing
One of the most important thing in Le Refuge des Près is to allow our clients to spend a nice moment sharing their experiences during a good meal. That’s why we created a cozy and luminous room with a capacity for 45 people. As for the meal, our experienced refuge keepers will prepare delicious dishes with local products to whet you appetite. You’ll have the choice between the today’s special or the à la carte dishes, completed with the wine menu.
